Our story

A Grant Team That Comes From the Community

The Word of Life / La Borne WA is a grant services company in University Place, Washington, founded by the leadership of The Word of Life Church. We started by funding our own community programs. Now we do the same work for other organizations.

Where we come from

From our own programs to yours.

Running programs for French-speaking African families in Pierce County meant learning, the hard way, how funding really works: which funders fit, what a strong application looks like, how to keep records an auditor respects, and how to report so a funder says yes again.

Other churches and community groups began asking for help. The Word of Life / La Borne WA is the company we set up to do that work properly, as a business, separate from the church.

Our commitments

Six things we promise every client.

Grant work runs on trust, with funders and with clients. These are written into every agreement.

  • Time, not a percentageWe charge a fixed price or retainer for our work. We never take a share of a grant award.
  • No guarantees, no invented numbersNobody can promise a grant. We will not overstate your results or write anything you cannot stand behind.
  • ConfidentialityYour finances, plans and funder relationships stay with us. We name clients publicly only with permission.
  • Everything is yoursNarratives, budgets, templates and prospect lists belong to your organization when the engagement ends.
  • Deadlines in writingEvery engagement has a calendar with your review dates and our delivery dates. If we might miss one, you hear early.
  • Plain language, both languagesWe explain what funders want in words your board understands, in English or French.
